Artist Statement

I create surrealistic images… I can’t really explain in properly, I just see my pictures as things you’ve seen before but you haven’t seen them through my lens.

Hello. My name is Kai Gordon. I am an artist that specializes in photography. Outside of that, I have my own agency (Saint Claire Agency), and I am the creative director/coordinator. Really anything that comes to producing, I don’t produce music, but I focus a lot on production & putting things together. I would say I’m a strong collaborator & the type of work that I do specializes in photography.

The type of art that I create are surrealistic images that I capture, I can’t really explain it properly, I just see my pictures as things that you’ve seen before, but you haven’t seen them through my lens. Another way to describe my work is basically like it’s not average & there’s a twist to it that makes it look like me. I think the best way to answer that question is to ask the question, “what’s my art look like to you?”

I want to say surrealism but what I’m really after is capturing immersive pictures to the point where you feel like you’re there. I don’t know if there’s terminology for it but that’s one of the best things.

At first I thought that, you know, there was really no art scene here. I knew I wasn’t the only one doing creative work, but I felt like I was the only one who was alone. I felt like everybody was together and I didn’t really have that sense of community when I first started. But as 2021 and 2022 came around, I then realized how strong the community actually was.

I wanted to build something for the community, within the community, you know, which is the agency. And I think the Columbus art community is inspiring me to just keep going and keep going hard and, you know, we can really make stuff look good with the little that we have and I think that’s our best trade as a community.

We are in Columbus, Ohio, and with this art scene you know, we really make something out of nothing. And that’s the beauty of all of that. I love what I do. I want to do it for the rest of my life.
